From The Columbus Dispatch, February 19, 2011:
Dr. Douglas Paul hopes he is never called to a road, shop floor or farm field to amputate the limb of someone who cannot be freed from a car or machinery by emergency medical workers.
But the surgeon wants to be prepared just in case.
The Columbus Division of Fire and Grant and Ohio State University medical centers have developed a partnership to respond to such an incident. Emergency medical workers are not trained to perform amputations.
When someone is trapped and could die, an emergency response medical team from either of the hospitals now will help rescue workers at trauma scenes.

From The Columbus Dispatch, February 18, 2011:
The worker’s arm was hopelessly trapped between the rollers in an industrial machine at the Jet Container Company in Columbus this morning.
Emergency medical workers were unable to free it.
His blood pressure was dropping. The situation was dire, and death was feared.
EMS workers summoned Dr. Doug Paul, a surgeon and trauma medical director at Grant Medical Center.
He arrived at the workplace at 2050 S. High St. and performed an emergency amputation.
The worker’s arm could not be saved, but the worker could. He lived.
