EMS Instructor Course

Student Admission Notice

Students will be accepted on a priority basis according to their fire department or EMS system affiliation.

  • Active members of a fire department or government-based EMS system will be given priority admission consideration.
  • Non fire department applicants, those affiliated with a private EMS or ambulance company and others may be accepted on a “space available” basis.

  • Possess a current certificate to practice as a Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), paramedic, or possess a license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Have at least five-years experience as a Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), paramedic or registered nurse in the preceding seven years.
  • Pass a written exam that demonstrates a level of knowledge in emergency medical services that’s consistent with the individual’s certificate to practice – registered nurse must pass a paramedic-level exam
  • Pass a practical exam for their level of certification.

Curricula Requirements

  • 50 hours in instruction of adult students and basic teaching techniques
  • 8 hours in instruction specific to the field of study (EMS)
  • 10 hours of supervised teaching
  • 2 hours toward completion of the techniques exam

The Franklin County Firefighters | Grant Medical Center EMS Education program is accredited by the State of Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS (Accreditation # 314).

The Franklin County Firefighters | Grant Medical Center EMS Education program’s paramedic school is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon review and recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
