The Hilliard Division of Police & Norwich Township Fire Department Invite You to Attend Two Special 9/11 Events

The Hilliard Division of Police & Norwich Township Fire Department invite you to attend two special events observing & commemorating the 10th anniversary of the tragedies which occurred on September 11, 2001.

Dedication of Ground Zero Flag Pole

Sunday, September 11, 2011 – 9:00 a.m.

Joint Safety Services Building – 5181 Northwest Parkway, Hilliard, Ohio

Only five flag poles survived the collapse of the World Trade Center and one of these flag poles has been erected in front of the Joint Safety Services Building. Please join us at 9:00 a.m. as this pole is dedicated and the first U.S. flag to fly on the pole in 10 years is risen.

The flag pole which stands 50 feet tall and still displays the scratches and markings from the attack will be surrounded by a field of 2,751 U.S. flags representing those who died as a result of the 9/11 attacks.

Service of Remembrance

Sunday, September 11, 2011 – 7:00 p.m.

First Responders Park

Old Hilliard – Main & Center Streets

A memorial ceremony will be held at the City of Hilliard’s “First Responders Park” at 7:00 p.m. This park is a memorial to the nearly 2,751 Americans who lost their lives in the three terrorist attacks of September 11th and is dedicated to the 403 “first responders” who died that day saving others.

A procession of police officers, firefighters and military personnel will parade through Old Hilliard arriving at the Park at 7:00 pm to join other local government and church officials at this special event. Join us as we come together as a community to honor and celebrate the lives of the 9/11 victims and to pay tribute to those first responders & military professionals who risk their lives every day protecting us.

Invitation to Police Officers, Firefighters & their Families

We are inviting all police officers, firefighters and their families to join in what will be a stirring and memorable moment. We are planning on all police and fire personnel to line up at the Joint Safety Services Complex (5181 Northwest Parkway) and parade to First Responders Park together in a sign of unity and respect for our fallen comrades. The event will coincide with the “Service of Remembrance” and the column of first responder personnel will be led through Old Hilliard to the park where the 10th Anniversary Service will be held.

The parade will be led by Honor Guards and Pipe & Drum Corps from numerous public safety organizations and military units.

All police officers and firefighters should dress in uniform and arrive at the Safety Complex between 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. We will line up all personnel, Honor Guards and Pipe & Drum Corps starting at 6:30 p.m. and “step-off” at 6:50 p.m. for the ten minute walk to the park.

We Look Forward To Your Participation

If your agency has an Honor Guard or Pipe & Drum Unit and would like to participate in this memorable event or if you have any questions, please contact Ofc. Michael Metz at 614.334.2322 or e-mail at mmetz@hilliardohio.gov for more information.

First Responders Park is the largest memorial of its kind in the United States outside of the monuments at the three individual terrorist attack locations in New York, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, PA. The $1.9 million park features over 6 tons of steel recovered from “Ground Zero,” three large granite walls engraved with the names of the 2,751 Americans lost and a reflecting pool with a flag lined plaza.
